Russell Edwards Q&A Pt 2

What work do you most enjoying doing?

Portraits and figures.

What’s your scariest experience?

My first gig playing in a band in the school Christmas Concert at the age of 15. I was cool though!

What’s your favourite art work?

‘The Lady of Shalott’ by John William Waterhouse.

Describe a real-life situation that inspired you?

The birth of all my grandchildren has been truly inspiring and they continue to do so every single day. However, just recently, observing an elderly woman begging in the streets of Budva in Montenegro was humbling, sad and a terrible indictment on society, but I felt compelled to paint her.

What’s your most embarrassing moment?

For many years thinking that the Lady Lever Art Gallery, Port Sunlight was in some faraway and exotic land. Thankfully it’s in Birkenhead! And I can visit whenever I like!
