Russell Edwards Q&A Pt 3
What jobs have you done other than being an artist?
Factory work, labouring on building sites, warehouseman, forklift driver, insurance salesman, HGV driver, Trainee supermarket manager and school teacher.
What is an artistic outlook on life?
Looking at everything with a view to painting it or writing a song about it!
What memorable responses have you had to your work?
The greatest thrill is still the responses made by children. They say what they mean and just like I was, they’re intrigued by the ability of an artist to make something look real in paint on a canvas. Painting truly inspires kids – fact!
What food, drink, song inspires you?
Roast dinners, malt whiskey and far too many songs to mention. I can honestly say that I’ve drawn every one of my favourite guitarists at one time or another whilst listening to their music – Kossoff, Hendrix, SRV, Rory Gallagher etc etc etc.
Is the artistic life lonely? What do you do to counteract it?
I paint figures and portraits so I’m never lonely! Cheesy but true. When painting, particularly when things are going well, time just flies by. You dread having to stop, I guess it’s “being in the zone’ How cliched does that appear?!?
